Vitabay® Passion Flower Extract is an excellent solution for nervous system problems, various conditions resulting from stress, and insomnia.

Passionflower is a genus of about 550 different species of flowering plants in the family Passifloraceae . Mostly climbing plants, but some members of the family are shrubby and herbaceous species. Their colors range from white to blue, purple, red, etc.

Rich chemical composition:

Plants of the genus are extremely rich in organic acids – formic, butyric, linoleic, linolenic, malic, oleic. Protocatechuic and p-hydroxybenzoic acids, which it contains, have a strong antioxidant effect. Passionflower is rich in secondary plant substances (flavonoids), essential oils, phenolic compounds and the amino acid alanine. The fruits of the plant contain a number of significant sugars – fructose, glucose and raffinose. They also contain the enzymes catalase, pectin, phenolase.

How it works:

Passionflower improves brain health and function in the following ways:

• Symptoms of anxiety and depression are often due to an imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters in the brain. One mechanism involves gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and the benzodiazepine receptor (GABAA), which work together to regulate the flow of chloride through ion channels. Studies have shown that the anxiolytic activity of passionflower is due to apigenin and chrysin, which are partial antagonists of the same benzodiazepine receptors.

Dysfunction of the GABA system is the cause of some neuropsychiatric conditions, which can lead to:

• increased anxiety;
• increased symptoms of depression;
• poor sleep quality.
