HMB (beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate) is an amino acid that is produced during the breakdown of the essential amino acid leucine. Leucine is involved in protein synthesis and has an extremely important role in the process of building muscle mass, as it stops catabolic processes and muscle breakdown, studies show that these properties are due to HMB.
