NattokinaseNatto extract, also known as Natto extract (a traditional Japanese ingredient and food), is an enzyme from fermented soybeans. It is produced by cooking soybeans and then fermenting them by adding the bacteria Bacillus subtilis natto.

This ingredient was discovered and extracted in 1987, when it was found that Natto dissolved artificial fibrin (an insoluble protein involved in the formation of blood clots).

Despite its name, nattokinase is not a kinase enzyme. It belongs to the family of serine protease enzymes, which work to break down other proteins. Mechanisms of action, studied in animals or human cells, are as follows:

• Directly cuts through cross-linked fibrin
• Increases the release of tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) from cells, which also destroys fibrin
• It increases urokinase levels by converting internal prourokinase to urokinase. More of this enzyme will lead to more plasmin in the blood, which is responsible for breaking down fibrin.
• Inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking thromboxane (a substance released by platelets that causes blood to clot and blood vessels to constrict)

Nattokinase, absorbed into the blood, increases its fluidity, thereby improving the overall condition of the body.
