Jarrow Formulas® Lactoferrin is an important immune-supporting glycoprotein found in breast milk, tears, and other body fluids. One of lactoferrin’s biological activities comes from its potent ability to bind iron (300 times that of serum transferrin), which promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria. In addition, the breakdown of lactoferrin by gastric pepsin releases the immune-modulating peptide Lactoferricin B.
Lactoferrin continues to demonstrate a wide range of potential benefits for humans. It has well-documented anti-infective, immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects. New research suggests that lactoferrin may be an effective weight loss aid that may also help maintain healthy gut flora.
