Theanine is a unique amino acid found almost exclusively in green tea that has beneficial effects on brain metabolism. Human clinical studies have shown that Theanine (as Suntheaninetm) induces relaxation without causing drowsiness, as measured by increased alpha-wave production.

Theanine may improve learning ability and the feeling of pleasure by affecting the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin in the brain. Theanine also exerts protective effects on the brain by reducing glutamate toxicity.

Additional human clinical research suggests that Suntheanine may have applications in improving sleep quality, reducing normal symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), reducing the negative side effects of caffeine, and supporting the immune system.
