Propolis is a sticky substance produced by bees around the world as a protective coating for their hives. It is a combination of the sugary sap of evergreen plants, pollen and natural beeswax. Collected on the bee's hind legs, just like pollen, its sticky texture means that bees need help from their "colleagues" to remove it.

Propolis is used by bees to seal gaps in their hives, to protect and keep the hives clean. It is a disinfectant and has antibacterial properties.

It is these properties that may provide the health benefits of propolis to humans. Generally speaking, it has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Propolis can be used:
