L-glutamine is an amino acid that is key to rapid recovery after intense physical exertion (whether sports or heavy physical labor) or serious illness. It protects muscle tissue and supports muscle growth after prolonged physical exercise.

Glutamine is involved in a wide range of metabolic processes, including protein synthesis and energy production. It is found in higher concentrations in skeletal muscle and plasma, and plays an important role in cell proliferation. It protects the body from inflammation and infection, and accelerates its recovery after illness or stress.

The use of glutamine is especially recommended during periods of prolonged and heavy physical exertion, injuries, inflammation, immune system dysfunction, etc. These conditions can cause glutamine deficiency, which in turn weakens the immune system and increases the risk of infections.

While skeletal muscle can synthesize glutamine, many other cells and tissues do not produce this essential amino acid, yet have a huge need for it. Immune cells, the kidneys, the liver, and the gastrointestinal tract rely on glutamine from skeletal muscle. Therefore, skeletal muscle requires a constant supply of glutamine.
