Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is an annual to biennial herbaceous plant with medicinal properties, used since ancient times. It originates from the Mediterranean part of Europe, and today it is distributed in North America and the Middle East, including Bulgaria, up to 1000 m above sea level.

Action of the main substances – flavonoids, inVitamin E and nmonounsaturated fats:

• Flavonoids (silybinin, isosilybinin, silychristin and silydianin) with the common name silymarin. They have a hepatoprotective effect, thanks to which they protect liver cells from damage and support its regeneration during periods of heavy load. Its anti-inflammatory properties have a beneficial effect on chronic liver diseases.

• InVitamin E, which provides powerful antioxidant protection against free radicals. It boosts the immune system and strengthens blood vessels, neutralizes the influence of "bad" cholesterol and supports the nervous and muscular systems. InVitamin E protects the skin from damage and the adverse effects of UV rays, increases elasticity and slows down the aging process.

• Hmonounsaturated fats: linoleic acid (Omega-6) and oleic acid (Omega-9).

Linoleic acid (Omega-6) helps maintain normal cholesterol and blood sugar levels, stimulates brain activity, reduces the risk of cardiovascular problems, relieves symptoms of food allergies, etc. It accelerates fat burning and is an effective aid in weight regulation.
