Description and main properties of theacrine
Theacrine is a purine alkaloid whose chemical structure resembles that of caffeine and theobromine (a stimulant found in chocolate). It is found quite rarely in nature. It is found in cupuaçu (Theobroma grandiflorum), a Brazilian tropical fruit related to cocoa, and in a variety of Chinese tea (Camellia kucha).

Camellia kucha is a wild subspecies of common tea (Camellia sinensis), which, however, contains 1-3% theacrine. The alkaloid gives the plant a bitter taste and the population in Yunnan province, where it grows in a natural environment, use it as a natural remedy for wounds, stomach disorders and inflammations. This attracts the interest of scientists and, conducting a number of studies, they discovered many useful properties of theacrine - it limits inflammatory processes, has a stimulating effect without causing adaptation or habituation, acts as an antioxidant, reduces fatigue, improves mood and mental activity.

Theacrine acts on the brain in a similar way to caffeine. In large doses, it stimulates the central nervous system, and in small doses, it depresses it. Unlike caffeine, however, theacrine does not affect blood pressure. It also limits stress-induced liver damage, acts as a pain reliever, and reduces swelling.

Supports lipid metabolism – Theacrine supports lipid metabolism in the body by regulating genes related to fatty acid metabolism. It limits the accumulation of fat cells and lowers triglyceride levels, thereby limiting steatosis and liver inflammation.
